Herschell Fortner is out of town. I would have wanted to know about this at least a month in advance.

Subject: College of Commissioner Science - August 27th
Hello fellow Commissioners,
I want to thank you for your continued service to the units in our council. With your help the youth and adult leaders in those units are able to successfully navigate the aims and methods of scouting.
To keep our skills sharp and be the best commissioners that we can possibly be, I invite you to register and attend the College of Commissioner Science on Saturday, August 27 at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus. Register at https://scoutingevent.com/662-61622-157361
This day of in-person training will be a chance to learn from experienced council and district commissioners, get crucial training or know you are doing your job right, and recharge your batteries in the fellowship of other dedicated Scouters.
Lastly, everyone attending is invited to the monthly Commissioner’s Cabinet which will be held during lunch. We will be covering a variety of topics and answering questions, so we want you to know what’s going on at the national and council level.
Thank you again for your attention to this email and I look forward to meeting you at the event.
Yours in Scouting,
Gary Payne

Subject: [Lone Star Commissioners] No Commissioner Meeting this week
Everyone-
I'd like to cancel this week's meeting and see if we can reschedule these meetings to after the District Committee meeting on the 1st Thursday at 8PM. I have a few reasons for this:
1. Gives us a chance to support Eagle Boards if needed, since that is now looking to be regularly on 3rd Thursday
2. Will be much closer in time to the Commissioner Cabinet meeting, so I'll have more current information
3. Free up a night and might have better attendance with the folks who are also in the District Committee.
I'm going to send a new calendar invite for a Zoom meeting. If/When District Committee meetings transition to in-person or hybrid I will follow suit.

Tom Kisner

Subject: Commissioner's College - August 27th
Good morning!
Registration should be online today. You will notice the classes do not have any options. Last year, there were too many offerings and only 47 people attended.
Classes offered are the ones ALL commissioners should know about. If they have already taken the class they can go to another class at the same time.
Start time will be 9am to allow our southern most districts travel time.
WE WILL NOT MEET ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 25th FOR OUR REGULAR MEETING. We will have a working lunch and ALL attendees will join our cabinet meeting.
There is a box lunch offer at registration.
Please let all of your commissioners know and encourage them to attend. I’m looking forward to seeing our commissioners in person.
Have a great day!
Angela

Lone Star Commissioners-

Additionally, there is info on assessments and where we are with membership goals.

Lone Star Commissioners-
As I'm sure most of you are aware from Chris' communications this past week, our DE Chris Bankus put in his notice and this Friday is his last day. Chris is pursing opportunities with his wife in the the Netherlands soon and is moving in the next few weeks. I personally wish him the best of luck.
The Council is working on hiring a permanent replacement, but in the meantime Asst. Director of Field Services Ryan Thompson is filling the role until he hires a new DE (anticipated timeline is 2-4 weeks, they are currently reviewing resumes and candidates). There are currently 4 districts without DEs, being that we are in the critical time for recruiting that will be Ryan's main focus with us until we have a new DE assigned and brought up to speed. I had a great meeting with him today, and his goal is to bring a ton of kids to our Packs this fall, and has a solid plan to do so.
Couple of things-
1. For August Roundtable we will have Ice Cream Social and we will not have breakouts (Brent/Brian FYI), the Big Rock discussion will be Membership, likely lead by Ryan and Fred.
2. We need to do a high level Red/Yellow/Green unit assessment for Ryan to identify the units biggest needs. I'll leverage both the Commissioner Reports and personal knowledge to pull something together, but I will certainly need consensus on the units that you cover and to fill in the gaps for some of the units - I'll be in touch.
Lastly, the Council Commissioner meeting is tonight and I plan on attending - I'll give everyone a summary of it tomorrow.

Tom Kisner

Howdy Lone Star Commissioner Corps-
I got back this weekend from Summer Camp with my Troop at Camp Alexander, and I'm officially out of "Summer Camp mode" and preparing for the next Scouting year.
Troops and Packs should be working on calendars for next year including ramping up for fall recruiting.
The council is not in good shape for membership recruiting compared to BSA as a whole or our goals. The Commissioner Corps will play a vital role, help keep the units healthy and recruiting new members. Additionally, I wanted everyone to know recharter will open in October this year.
I have the Council Commissioners' meeting this week and I should be able to get so additional details on current happenings.
At the August Roundtable on August 11th, we'll have the ice cream social. Encourage everyone to attend.

Tom Kisner
