SUPPORTING UNITS:

  • Preparing Packs for Great Pinewood Derbies

An all-new Pinewood Derby promotional kit is now available to help Packs build interest in their Pinewood Derbies. It provides practical information on supporting a traditional centerpiece of the program that attracts and retains both youth and adult volunteers to Cub Scouting.

Check it out: 2023 Pinewood Derby Campaign Kit
  • Planning the Heart of Scouts BSA Troops

Program is Scouting’s Heart. It’s what attracts and retains both the youth we serve and the adult volunteers needed to serve them. A program planning conference enables a Scouts BSA troop’s patrol leaders’ council to brainstorm possibilities for a calendar full of exciting troop outings.

  • New BSA Merit Badge Hub Provides Enhanced Experience, More Information

The new BSA Merit Badge Hub offers a host of improved features. Site navigation now focuses on an A-Z Merit Badge Listing, a specialized Eagle-required merit badge grouping, integrations with Scout Shop merit badge pamphlets, and links to content from Scout Life magazine and On Scouting.

  • NESA Scholarship Application Window Is Now Open

Sharing the news about the National Eagle Scout Association scholarships helps highlight this popular benefit of Scouting. On December 1, NESA began accepting applications for its annual scholarships.

GROWING SCOUTING:
  • The Importance of Commissioners

Commissioners help grow Scouting; their job is to help ensure that every member of the BSA has a great Scouting experience, and that attracts and retains both the youth we serve and the adult leaders needed to serve them. Commissioners have IMPACT!

Check it out: The Importance of Commissioners
  • Celebrate Success!

Scouting grew in 2022, exceeding its goal for total youth membership by year end and retaining youth members at a rate not seen in years! Commissioners contributed to those results by helping units create a welcoming environment, ensure strong unit leadership, deliver a program that attracts and retains youth and adult volunteers, and keeps their members safe. They can help ensure continued growth in 2023 by encouraging unit leaders to plan for the success of new Scouts by ensuring they continue their trail, and they can also plan for recruiting more new members.

COMMUNICATING INFORMATION:
  • Updated, Simplified Commissioner Position Descriptions Available

We’re more successful in seeking and inviting volunteers to serve as commissioners when we can simply and clearly explain what success looks like. Our new position descriptions for district commissioners, their assistants, and unit commissioners are designed to do just that.

  • New Council Membership Tools

All commissioners now have access to a new resource for membership data in my.scouting. The "Membership Reports" include a wealth of data about membership, units, new registrations, diversity, and a whole host of other indicators for units, districts, councils, and territories. The "Objectives Progress Report" tracks growth in the number of youth and units. Each of these reports provides valuable information as we collectively work on Growing Scouting. A User Guide is available to help learn how to navigate this new resource.

  • Incident Reporting in the BSA: How it Works, and Why It Matters

Even when the Four Points of SAFE are used consistently, incidents can occur. That’s when the BSA’s incident reporting process comes into play and helps ensure the future safety of our members.
