Just a note ... this does not qualify for the BSA 50-miler Award.
The group must cover a trail (or a canoe or boat route) of not less than 50 consecutive
miles and take a minimum of five consecutive days to complete the trip — all without the
aid of motors. During the trip, each participant must spend at least 10 hours working on a
conservation project such as trail maintenance.

district. This will be its 59th year. It was started with the Kennedy fitness challenge
that was inspired by Teddy Roosevelt requiring Marine lieutenants and captains to march 50
miles in less than 20 hours (Luckily we don't have the 20 hour limit).
Troop 3 has been doing it for the last 7 years, I won't lie the first evening of the
50 miler is rough, but we've had a number of Scouts complete it at least 4 years in a
row.
